About Sayf

I’m not easily defined by words, but how many of us truly are?

I’m a developer. I’ve been learning to code ever since my father brought home a TRS-80 Color Computer. I even have some print outs of early programs I wrote from scratch.

I’m a designer. Always been into art and doodling. Even won some awards when I was younger for my artwork. Most of it is difficult to translate to the web, and I’m certainly not the best designer out there, but I get by.

I’m a user experience expert. I went to graduate school for Anthropology and have always been a keen student of my fellow primates. How do they think? How do they work? Why? I often will ask people questions or make statements from a logical non-human standpoint in order to gauge people’s reactions. I always find it more interesting when the apes get riled up, and can’t adequately defend their actions in words. I think take this and apply it to how we use things like the internet.

I’m a father. I have three kids (that I know of) and love them all. It’s not easy, and we really should have bought a king sized bed instead of a queen, but it’s worth it.

I’m a geek. I read geeky things, watch geeky shows, do geeky stuff. I have a star wars tatoo, lego sets for myself, a World of Warcraft account with an embarrassingly large /played number. Etc.

I’m also a budding outdoorsman. I have a bum knee which sidelines me alot, but when I can I love to get away from all this technology. Get out on a stream with only the sound of the wind and the bubbling water while I fish trout. Hump miles overland in northern Wisconsin with a shotgun in my hand listening and watching for a grouse flush. Strapping a pack to my back and heading out into a national park, or better yet Isle Royale, for a week with just what I bring with me. I don’t get to do it enough these days. Barely at all it seems, but when I can it’s glorious.

That’s me. I wake up. Work alot on my web business and my clients web businesses. Eat lunch, work some more. Play with my kids. Put them to bed. Play on my computer, or watch movies with my wife, or read a book in the john, and when i’m really lucky we can all pack into our Honda Civic if the engine light isn’t on, and head out somewhere a little less…
